Can you work out a way of holding a
bunch of papers together? - Tracing a great design backwards
I developed a hands-on lesson in which students are given the opportunity to explore a mundane object, (and design classic), and work out what it is that makes it such a great design.
Learners are asked to identify the problem a product has been designed to solve by trying to solve this problem themselves. They then analyse and assess their solutions. By experiencing the problem
themselves, they get a better grasp of why the existing solution works so well and ticks so many boxes.
